SUMMER UPDATE

Summer Update:

Aloha Mai Tai Dye Camp!

We hope you are all getting ready to Burn the Man in just over 1 month!

Our camp plans are starting to come together. Please let us know if you can help in any way!

We received 20 early entry passes, so let us know if you want to arrive before 12:01 AM on Monday August 30th and we will hook it up!

Any money we raise + camp fees are going towards mai tai supplies, body paint, and tie dye, plus the big dome. We are still working to obtain a dome for hanging out and partying inside of. We are super hopeful that Shane is going to score a dome off San Diego craigslist….everyone keep their fingers crossed!

Another new idea is to introduce tarpsurfing to the playa…could be sick! Bring your skate.

Here’s the plan: once we have the dome, we’d love to throw a fundraiser in Santa Cruz. Our party will feature djs, hula hoops, body art, and mai tais! Basically, what we’ll be offering on the playa. We are looking for a location to do this, so let us know if you’ve got the spot!

Our camp fee is set at $50. To put that in perspective, some members are dropping ten times as much to help purchase the dome/alcohol.

THINGS FOR OUR CAMP TO PROVIDE – CAN YOU HELP WITH ANY OF THIS? (connections on cheap alcohol, extra camping tables/chairs/stoves, spare tarps, a shade structure, projector, generators, big van/truck or trailer to haul stuff…anything else you can think of!) Mai Tais! Kitchen space – tables, benches, Stove(s) and fuel Dome or other large tent space for shelter/hang out/parties Shower and greywater tarp! Hula Hoops body paint tie dye supplies Community :) Anyways, the main point here is that our camp is only going to be as awesome as we collectively make it! If nobody does anything to help fundraise or plan great things ahead of time, we are going to all show up for Burning Man and have a cherry 100 X 200 foot space to put our few small tents on. But if we work together we can make the magic happen!

If you have never been before, please check out the Burning Man Survival Guide at < http://www.burningman.com/preparation/event_survival/ > for some very important tips. “Radical Self Reliance” has great suggestions for what to bring and what to leave at home. In our minds, a camelpak is the #1 item to have! Check it here : http://www.burningman.com/preparation/event_survival/radical_self_reliance.html..

We strongly suggest planning your first time Burning Man experience with a buddy. You can carpool there together, share food costs and preparation, and watch out for each other on the playa. Remember, you are responsible for all your own transportation to and from the event, as well as food, water and shelter. Happy planning!

Burning Man Film

June 3, 2010, 7:30 PM

Rio Theatre, Santa Cruz, CA
DUST & ILLUSIONS   DUST & ILLUSIONS explores the entire history of the Burning Man event. Whether you have been to Burning Man or not, or are even interested in the subject, the film goes beyond the simple event in the desert, and looks at how ideals/utopias we’ve had in our youth evolve through an entire lifetime. Specifically, the documentary starts from the late 1970s with 2 groups of people out of the San Francisco underground movements, and goes all the way to the multi-million dollar business Burning Man has become today. The film asks the audience whether politics have replaced philosophies.   The DIRECTOR will be in attendance for Q&A.

TICKETS: $8/12 online presales, and $15 door:
